Q: Will the cold air intake increase horsepower on my stock 2.0? Or will the learn down feature negate any gains? If there are no gains in horsepower, what are the benefits of a cold air intake system on a stock turbo car? Thanks, Paul. P.S. Installed the short throw shifter this weekend. Wow! If your Solstice/Sky 2.0L turbo is on the stock tune, then all the airflow gains by the intake will be eventually learned out by the ECM. The ECM in the Solstice/Sky 2.0L is a learning ECM that is constantly monitoring calculated torque the engine is making. If you add any modification to the engine that increases airflow and power, the ECM will detect this change and dial back until the engine is making the calculated torque programmed into the ECM in the factory tune. This "learn down" feature of the ECM will do the same thing with exhausts, downpipes, intakes, etc.

The cold air intake does pick up air from the same location, but since the intake is more free flow than the stock intake, you do hear more of the turbo induction and bypass valve noises, which a lot of customers see as a benefit. Also, the cold air intake is aluminum and weighs less than the stock plastic intake and can be powdercoated in your choice of colors to dress up the engine bay.

If you do decide to eventually do a tune on the ECM, there are some benefits in power the intake does give in the upper RPM range above 5000RPM's.

Our intake was tested and designed to work with the OEM tuning without running rich/lean or causing damage to the engine after the install. While testing we made sure that we also maintained the proper fuel trims in the ECM while providing more power in the upper RPM range.
