Supercharger FAQ's

What exactly does this kit entail?
The kit includes everything you need to install a M62 supercharger onto a Solstice/Sky. The supercharger, brackets, belt, hardware, filter, tubing, and ECM reflash. It is a complete bolt on kit, nothing else is needed to get the car up and running with more power.

How much power does the kit add?

The base non-intercooled kit is running a very safe 5-5.5 psi and adds 45-50 HP and 45-50 Ft/lbs of torque. The intercooled kit produces 8-9 psi and 245-255HP to the wheels intercooled. The Stage 3 large throttle body kit produces 270-275 at the wheels.

How much does the kit cost?
The non-intercooled Stage 1 kits are $3250, the Stage 2 intercooled kits are $4250 and the Stage 3 kits are $4950.

Can I install this at home?

Absolutely! The kit has been designed to be as easy as possible to install and really is a bolt on power solution. We do think you should know how to change your own oil and also know what a crank pulley is to do the install, if you are not sure if you can do it, please call or email us and we can walk you through the decision if you should be installing the kit.

What is the ET on installation if done by yourself?
The Stage 1 kits usually can be installed in 8 hours, the Stage 2 kits install in 10-11 hours and the Stage 3 kits installs in about 12 hours. We usually recommend having the weekend free for the installation.

Will it come with detailed instructions?
We take pride in our instructions and the kit will include detailed instructions with lots of pictures.

Will it work with an Automatic?
Yes

How long is the expected delivery time?
Delivery time is usually 3-4 weeks depending on options

Will this affect my factory warranty?
There is the Moss/Magnusson act that I would suggest looking up and reading concerning this. Basically it states that the burden of proof is on the dealer to prove that the aftermarket part that you installed caused the factory part to fail. Here is a copy of the full act:

I live in California and the highest gas I can get is 91, would my tuned be a problem?

Your tune will not be a problem, we can tune it for 91 and will have that tune available for California cars

Instead of powder coating my kit black can it be done in red?
Not a problem, we can have them powder coated what ever color you want. There would be a small fee, the cost is $75 for the color change.

Will these work with shorty headers?

The supercharger kit will not work with the clear image shorty headers; but will work with the Solo Shorty headers. Of course all of our supercharger kits work with the DDMworks 4-1 long tube headers.

Is it 100% guaranteed to fit with the Clear Image long tube headers?

Yes, we have test fit on a car with the Clear image long tube headers and it fit, it will not fit with the clear image shorty headers.

Do I need to let you know what exhaust mods I have for configuring the air:fuel?
No, our reflash will adapt to the exhaust mods that you have on the car.

Does it come with a new computer or how does the computer get retuned?
There are a couple options here. Right now you can either send us your ECM, we will reflash it and send it back to you. The other option is to buy a ECM from us already flashed and included with the kit for $350. The third option is to pay the $350 for the ECM to be sent with the kit and once we receive a good ECM back from you after your install, we will credit you back the $350.

What kind of filter do you use with the kits?
All of the kits use K&N filters

Is the supercharger a MP62?
Yes the supercharger is a MP62, not the older M62.

Does the kit include upgraded fuel injectors?
Yes, the kit does include upgraded fuel injectors and wiring harnesses. It is a very easy job to swap the injectors, just a couple bolts and the included fuel injector adapter harnesses make the job a true plug and play.

Can I have my runners powdercoated, chromed, polished, etc.?
Yes, we will be happy to do whatever you would like to customize your kit. Although there will be a charge for different colors, chroming, etc, and there may be a slight delay in shipping for the color change. Just contact us and we will let you know about pricing.

My ECM is locked by Vector, or some other tuner, what should I do?
We need to be supplied with a working, unlocked ECM to be able to reflash it for you. There are a couple of options. You can send your ECM to Vector and have them unlock it and then send it to us. We can send you a new ECM with our tune in it, and you can sell the Vector. Or you can buy an extra ECM and send it to us and we can send it back reflashed.

Does the reflash for the supercharger have the same enhancements as the my upgraded tune in the car now?
This is a tricky question, the tunes are for 2 different set-ups. One is for a Naturally aspirated car and one is for a supercharged car, so it really is like comparing apples and oranges. There has been A LOT of work, time and money put into getting the tuning right on this setup and we have learned a lot about how to make forced induction work with the stock ECM, so I hope you understand that we are going to be a little quiet about what exactly we changed in the ECU programming. Needless to say the test car has great drivability and we expect that the production kits will have that same great drivability.

Will the factory heat shield work?
On most installations we do not resuse the factory heat shield, however the stock heat shield can be modified to fit.

Will the supercharger cause me to use more gas?
During cruise and light throttle the supercharger has an internal bypass that allows the supercharger to use almost no power, so during cruise and light throttle your fuel mileage will be almost the same as stock. However, once you star_blue_bkgt doing lots of full throttle pulls, your gas mileage will go down. However we have found a direct inverse relationship between miles per gallon and smiles per gallon .

Do you need a heavier duty clutch?
Stage 1 and Stage 2 kits will work with the stock clutch as long as you are not dropping the clutch at 5K RPM's doing drag racing star_blue_bkgts over and over. Stage 3 does require and upgraded clutch.

Is the stock single exhaust adequate?
The Stock single exhaust will work with the Stage 2 supercharger setup, although we do highly recommend adding a high flow cat to the setup.

How much of a hit in HP using the stock exhaust?
You can see between 5-10 horsepower with an aftermarket exhaust over the stock setup.

Is there a dual exhaust kit out there that you recommend and what's the cost?
The most popular exhausts out there for the cars are made by Solo Performance (http://www.solo-performance.com/exhaustk.asp) prices available on their site.

How will the kit affect reliability?
Anytime you nearly doubling the output of an engine you should expect to decrease the longevity of the motor. Although at this point the kits are up and working great with some cars pushing close to 70K miles supercharged, and the engine is well overbuilt so we have not seen any issues with the motor or drivetrain.

Are you seeing any reliability issues to date?
So far none, other than the suggestion of replacing the cat with a high flow unit as the 2006-2007 models are known to have bad cats from the factory.

How many of these setups are out there running?
76+

How long do the supercharger belts last?
We are not sure how long they will last as most people that are running the 6 rib setup are on their original belt. I would think you would want to inspect/change the belt every 50k miles.

Are they readily available and what is the cost?
The belts are readily available from any parts store, it is a 5060620 belt used on other GM applications usually costing around $30.

Any other maintenance issues we should be aware of?
The supercharger is self lubricated and has a self contained oil supply in the nose that should be changed every 100k miles.

How much of a hit to fuel economy assuming only moderately aggressive driving?
While cruising the supercharger is in bypass mode and with a slight bit of timing added most of our customers have seen a slight increase in mpg during cruise down the interstate. As for the rest of the time, you are forcing more air and gas into the engine so it just depends on how often you are going full throttle as to what your fuel mileage will be. Most of the cars that we have come in here seem to settle in that 25-27 mpg range as reported on the DIC.

Anything else we need to buy?
I would highly recommend a high flow cat with the install. Also we do offer sending out an extra ECM with the kit already flashed and ready to install for $350.

Is a boost gage included?
The kit does not include a boost gauge.
