This product dramatically improves traction, handling and at the same time the comfort of the car. All shock absorbers are individually tuned for each model and its specific characteristics. They are tested by fitting shock absorbers to the vehicle and conducting thorough tests. Öhlins' believe in trying to combine the hard-to-define ‘feeling’ of the experienced drivers with measurement data obtained from their advanced equipment.
The shock absorbers are externally adjustable, allowing the damping to be tuned to the individual preference of the driver. It can also be stripped and rebuilt to individual requirements. The product range will be focused on high performance cars that tend to be driven hard by their owners. It’s also possible to use these shock absorbers in club-races, on race tracks etc. Our customers are motor enthusiasts who want maximum performance from their cars, which is one of the reasons why they choose our shock absorbers, which are of a higher quality and have better characteristics. Normally, a sport kit of this type is slightly bumpy. However, our track racing experience, coupled with a lot of hard work, has taught us how we can combine improved road holding with an identical, or even improved, level of comfort.
This is why we are now in a position to offer Öhlins products that, up until now, were exclusively available to the motor racing elite, to more and more ‘ordinary’ drivers, giving them the chance to experience that special ‘Öhlins feeling’ in their day-to-day driving.
Q: What are the differences between PCV's and DFV's and the benefits?
A: The PCV version of the Ohlins are a steel bodied shock with a unique PCV valving on the compression stroke of the damper. The PCV ride height is adjusted using the spring perch adjustment. They are very rugged and great for daily drivers. The DFV version of the Ohlins have an aluminum damper body making them lighter than the PCV version. They have a unique DFV valving on compression and rebound of the damper. The dampers have adjustable spring perches for proper corner weighting and also have adjustable shock body length for ride height adjusting. They are more suited to the track car, since the aluminum body of the shock can be damaged with road debris, although they can be run on a street car as long as this is taken into consideration.
Q: I do a lot of daily driving, AutoX and would like to start doing open track which Ohlins should I choose?
A: Actually, either of the Ohlins offerings, either the PCV or the DFV versions are going to be an excellent choice for the kind of driving it sounds like you are doing.
Q: What are the spring rates?
A: The spring rates on both of the set-ups are the same 8kg front and 6kg rear. That equates out to 448 lb/in front and 335 lb/in rear.
Q: Is their ride comfort to gain and would I receive more oversteer?
A: The ride comfort of the Ohlins is pretty amazing, even with the higher spring rates. The adjust-ability of the Ohlins will allow you to dial in over steer, neutral or under steer.
Q: I heard that everything is pre-assembled ordered from DDMworks, is that true?
A: We do pre-assemble all Ohlins before they leave our shop. What you will receive is something you can immediately install.
